CAREER BACKGROUND
Dr Timothy Chan, a British interior designer and one of the founders of TCDC, has over 26 years experience practicing interior design as well as educating young designers. During his career, he spent 7 years working in Hong Kong and gained vast experience and knowledge of design in Asia. He has been involved in a variety of projects from corporate office design to shopping malls, from hotels to residences and from auditoriums to cultural centres.
In the year of the millennium, Timothy was invited by the Ministry of Education of The Republic of the Marshall Islands to work as a lecturer and architectural design consultant to the College of the Marshall Islands. After spending a year in the Marshall Islands, he moved back to Edinburgh and led the research in converting the Scottish National Monument into the Edinburgh Cultural Centre. In 2003, Timothy moved to Shanghai and joined two of the multi-national design consulting firms based there, as design director and associate, to develop new divisions of their interior design business in China and develop designer training schemes.
In May 2012, Timothy presented his recent research study ‘Towards establishing an internal training development at organizational level: A case study of an interior design organization’ at the Annual Conference at the Business School of Edinburgh Napier University. Timothy completed a controversial research project in the Business School of Edinburgh Napier University, studying the interactive dynamics between designers and their clients during the interior design process. Currently, Timothy takes on the Senior lecturer/Course Leader Interior Design in HBU-UCLAN School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries.
Various works of Timothy can be found in Hong Kong, major cities in China, the Marshall Islands and the United Kingdom.
